Start with the notice period
No date, no switch. Four things sit in the old contract:
- Term and start. Twelve months from the first day of cleaning is typical, not from signature.
- Renewal clause. Most contracts renew for another twelve months unless notice is given three months earlier.
- Written form and delivery. What counts is the day the notice arrives. Use recorded delivery or a witness.
- Separate annexes. Window cleaning, deep cleaning and winter service often carry deadlines of their own.

How do I terminate a cleaning contract properly?

Can I end the contract early if the work is poor?
Yes, persistent poor performance can justify termination for cause. It takes dated written complaints, a deadline for remedy and a prompt decision. A mutual termination agreement at month-end is often faster. This is practical orientation, not legal advice.
